The CCTV & Public Space Surveillance' course is reported to be one of the hardest training courses set out by the official industry body, the Security Industry Authority (SIA). This organisation is responsible for regulating the private security industry according to the requirements set out by the Government and covers security guards, private detectives and door personnel.
The security team at the Marina passed the course with flying colours and are among only a small number of security personnel to do so in the UK. In fact, only two other licences have already been granted in the whole of the country (with 28 people qualified to apply for the licence) despite the thousands of CCTV control rooms. The licence will be a legal requirement for security officers by March 2006 but the Marina's team have stepped up to the challenge early.
